What is the Essay Contest?
The Maryland Right to Life Essay Contest is an exciting opportunity for students to give voice to their pro-life convictions. The theme question is: Why Am I Pro-life?
Essays should be submitted electronically. The deadline for submission is December 10, 2016. Please send all completed essays to firstname.lastname@example.org!
Essays must be between 300 and 500 words and typed in no smaller than 12-point font.
Essays will be judged on originality, content, and accuracy. There will be two categories: Grades 10-12 and Grades 7-9. Please make sure to indicate the contestant's grade level.
In each category, the first prize is $100, second prize is $50, and the third prize is $25.
The first place essay in each category in the MDRTL contest will be forwarded to the National Right to Life contest. Ranking by MDRTL judges is independent of ranking by NRLC judges. NRLC prize values may differ from MDRTL's. In late January 2017, NRLC will judge essay from both categories from students throughout the country.

What is the Oratory Contest?
The Maryland Right to Life Oratory Contest is a fun and rewarding way for high school teens to take part in the right to life movement! Participants must prepare and deliver a 5–7 minute long original pro-life speech on a topic involving abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, or embryonic stem cell research. Partaking in this endeavor helps the student refine and develop his or her understanding of the important issues of our day, as well as give him the tools to help shape the opinions of his peers. Participation in an Oratory contest equips the student with practical public speaking skills that will benefit him both in college and in his professional career. The contest is open to high school juniors and seniors who reside in Maryland as of February 1, 2017. Entries are due by April 22, 2017 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Oratory Contest will be held at the Maryland Right to Life state headquarters on Saturday, April 29, 2017. The winner of the Maryland State Contest will win an expense paid trip to the National Right to Life Convention’s Jane B. Thompson Oratory Contest, where students from all 50 states will compete for a first prize of $1000.00. All students who participate in the Maryland Contest must be available and willing to represent Maryland at the National Contest if chosen as the winner.
The Maryland Right to Life Oratory Contest is a unique opportunity for students to speak out for life and build their skills as part of the next generation of pro-life leaders. Sign up today!
