• MDRTL Chapter Activities.

• MDRTL chapters fall under the 501 (c)(4) classification. As such, they may engage in both legislative lobbying and educational activities. The chapters may solicit dues or donations from their members; however, such contributions are not tax-deductible. Chapters may not form their own political action committees or educational trust funds. However, chapters may solicit tax-deductible donations to the MDRTL Foundation that are designated for use in their county. Any designated funds received by the state office will be made available to the chapter for educational expenditures. Chapters may not endorse candidates or sponsor political activities. However, chapter members may exercise their 1st Amendment right to distribute political literature by participating in lit drops sponsored by an MDRTL-PAC. Furthermore, chapters may survey local candidates regarding their positions on life issues and make recommendations for local endorsements to the MDRTL-PAC. Maryland Right to Life seeks to have an active chapter in every county. Chapter involvement and activities vary widely between one chapter and the next.
